These fans were ‘borrowed’ from the Sculpture Space Residency (Utica, NY)

For this piece, I ‘borrowed’ box fans from the residency that I was residing at (Sulpture Space in Utica, NY Fall of 2005). The fans were returned to their original condition, and released back into their natural environment: This is a parasitic project.

The fan power cords are tied together and hung from the ceiling. I tied a knot in the power cord, and cut a slot with a hole on the ends of the 2×2 for it to fit into. This stabilized the system and kept the fans equidistant.

The entire rest of the electrical connection that you can’t see is made up of standard extension cord and knots. When I let this piece run continuously, it inevitably twisted itself up to the point that the cord broke, there was a little arc, and then it was done. It moves between gently rocking back and forth, and flailing uncontrollably.  Kind of like how I feel most of the time.
